03/01/2007 - News from the home of heating cover: Brits spending millions on 'avoidable' heating repairs
New reports suggest that UK householders are spending millions of pounds on heating repairs that could be avoided, putting themselves out of pocket by failing to secure proper heating insurance.

Figures from uSwitch reveal that as much as £64 million is being spent heating repairs as many households find themselves having to pay out for repair work during the winter months.

These costs could be met by the proper heating insurance, but many people fail to include heating cover on their list of priorities.

"The decision to take out heating cover is often viewed as an unnecessary expense," explained Geoff Slaughter of uSwitch.

"But when you consider the prospect of being without hot water and heating in the winter months, or being landed with a bill for as much as £470, heating cover becomes incredibly cost effective."

It is thought that some 43 per cent of Brits do not have their boilers serviced on an annual basis, whilst 20 per cent admit to having never had their boilers looked at.

Meanwhile, Reports from Direct Line show that one in ten homeowners may have been without heating or hot water during the festive season due to concerns over the cost of repair work.
