Help & Advice

Making the most of your oven

Even if you have an extended warranty or appliance cover on your oven, it makes sense to look after it and make sure you get the very best performance from it.

Getting the most out of a fan oven

Fan ovens cook foods faster and at lower temperatures so saving time and energy!

Get Familiar!

  • The best way to familiarise yourself with a new oven is just to
start using it. Experiment with your favourite recipes. But cook them at a slightly lower temperature and for a slightly shorter time than you normally would.
  • Not all recipes or food packaging gives instructions specifically
for fan oven users, check to the manufacturer's hand book for guidance on how much you need to reduce the time and temperature by compared to conventional ovens.
  • As a general rule, you'll need to reduce the heat by 10-20ºC and the
overall time by 5-10 minutes per hour for most foods. But don't cut the cooking time if the oven is full.
  • Buy an oven thermometer - because oven thermostats can vary.
  • Remember to leave space around dishes and at the sides to allow the hot air currents to circulate. It's a good idea to stagger trays so they don't lie directly above or below one another.

Speedier results!

  • When planning meal times, remember food cooked in a fan oven will be ready more quickly than in a conventional oven.
  • Pre-heating is usually unnecessary - although with baking you may get shorter baking times and better results if it is.

Good circulation!

With a fan oven's all-over even temperature you can:

  • Use all the shelves at once for batch baking.
  • Prepare complete meals without the flavours intermingling (because the circulating air breaks up odours and fat particles).
  • Cut out all that reposition of shelves or swapping trays half way through cooking.
  • But you do need to choose foods requiring a similar temperature to cook together.
