09/01/2007 - News from the home of plasma insurance: HD TVs dominate electronics show
Oversized flat-panel TVs have been the most ubiquitous item at the ongoing consumer electronics show (CES) in Las Vegas.

King of them all is the Sharp 108-inch high-definition TV – the world's largest, according to the company.

The TV was introduced just hours after Samsung unveiled its own brand new HD TV, measuring 100 inches.

Samsung has stated: "The sale of flat-panel TVs will outpace that of projection TVs and traditional flat picture tube TVs in terms of both value and volume this year."

The South Korean company went on to say that it is aiming to increase sales of flat-screen TVs by 80 per cent during 2007.

Last year the company aimed to sell 7.5 million units, but has upped that number to 13.5 million for this year.

The CES also saw Samsung introduce the first double-sided LCD screen for use in mobile phones.

Measuring only 3.35 millimetres thick, the screen will be used in phones that have a clam-shell design.

Domestic & General is the UK's leading provider of extended warranty and breakdown insurance for domestic appliances and boilers.
