Stay safe with a boiler service

Summer is here and chances are you’ve turned off your central heating.  Of course, this saves money on gas bills and gives your boiler a much-needed rest, but it’s also the ideal time to have a boiler service before winter when heating engineers get busy attending to breakdowns.

According to Gas Safe Register, the new industry safety body (replacing CORGI earlier this year), gas appliances should be checked annually to reduce the risk of a carbon monoxide leak.

Carbon monoxide is an odourless, colourless gas that can be released by faulty gas appliances. It is poisonous and can cause sickness, headaches, shortness of breath and even death.  Services should always be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer – NEVER use an unregistered tradesman or attempt to service your boiler yourself.

As well as ensuring your boiler is safe to use, a service will also make sure your boiler is running as efficiently as possible.  During a service the engineer will inspect every functioning part of your boiler, cleaning out any dust or debris that may have accumulated and checking that it is on the right setting and burning fuel correctly.  This means you could end up using less gas after a service, saving yourself money on fuel bills!
