Get emergency plumbing help

If you’ve ever experienced the misery of a plumbing emergency, you might also remember the shock of receiving the bill for receiving an out-of-hours call-out. A recent survey by Domestic & General highlights the potential cost to homeowners of typical plumbing and drainage repairs, which may not be covered by your home insurance.

Typical plumbing costs uncovered by the survey* include:

  • Fix a burst water pipe, or a pipe that’s damaged by accident in a DIY accident - £162.00
  • Unblock a toilet - £143.00
  • Repair a leaking toilet - £130.00
  • Repair a cracked or collapsed underground drainpipe - £500
  • Repair a cold water storage tank leak - £167

In addition to the cost, there is also the problem of finding a plumber who is able to visit your home in an emergency, perhaps in the middle of the night or on Christmas Day!  To offer peace of mind over your plumbing and drains, Domestic & General now offers Plumbing Care and Drain Care.

Plumbing Care costs £2.70 a month by Direct Debit and looks after all your internal plumbing, coming to your aid in the event of an emergency leak from your pipes, toilet or cold water storage tank.  Drain Care costs £2.95 a month by Direct Debit and takes care of blockages in your toilet, drain or sink, plus damage caused to your underground drainage pipes.  The Direct Debit costs save you £6 on the annual price – but you can save a further £3 when you take Plumbing Care and Drain Care together for £5.40 – meaning a total saving of £15.
